    My civic baby!

Most days I drive to the park n ride and take the bus. It saves even more than my hybrid, but at least when I drive i opt for the hybrid. I swear I pay up to $30/mo for gas. It's amazing, but I feel even better knowing that I'm saving the environment if only just a little bit. I HAVE modified my driving, but some days/runs I can't sit on the fwy at 62mph and be safe. Crazy NorCal drivers... (Sorry if this isn't allowed, feel free to remove or tell me to remove it if that's the case)

    HCH 2003-2008 Class Action Suit
Got this in an email, almost missed it thinking it was spam.

Apparently people are dissatisfied with the HCH's mileage and so, of course -lawsuit.

    www.HCHsettlement.com

Basically, if you bought or leased a new 2003-2008 HCH and are dissatisfied with it, you can get a discount on a new non-hybrid Honda or Acura. Or if you actually registered a complaint with American Honda about gas mileage prior to March 2, 2009, you are eligible for $100. I recommend you read the faq on that site if you are interested in participating.

I personally plan to opt-out as:
    1. My HCH gets better gas mileage than most any vehicle on the road. Yes, I did modify my driving style. I also had to modify my driving simply because I was no longer in a truck with a foot of ground clearance... :P
    2. While I was disappointed my gas mileage went down when I bought those new tires, that would not be covered under this suit and I have no registered complaint with American Honda whereby I would qualify for the $100. (Option C)
    3. I have no interest in a new non-hybrid Honda or Acura car.
    4. I'm happy with my car overall. I am especially glad I got it when I did as stickshifts are no longer available. It has held up admirably these past 5years and I intend to drive it until the wheels fall off.

The video on maxxing your gas efficiency sounds like a decent idea for anybody though!

    Question for you guys
I went to my local mechanic..which is a Tires Plus and they told me that they don't do any work on Civic Hybrids....I am going to need to get an oil change soon and I really don't want to take it to the dealership...can anyone give me some recommendations of someplace other than the dealership to go? I live in a suburb of the Washington, DC area...so any guidance would be great.

My other question is in regards to a timing belt or timing chain...which does it have...I went looking through my manual about maintenance and to see when it needs to be replaced and I didn't see squat about it...so if any of you know whether it's a belt or chain and when it needs to be replaced it would be much appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Eric

    Hey there
Just joined this community...I just bought an 08 Civic Hybrid because I started a new job and my commute is 60 miles each way...I have a 2000 Accord and I was filling up three times a week.

Needless to say I have had the car a week and absolutely love it.

    '03 Civic Hybrid Roadtrip!
Hey guys! If you're interested, I uploaded a time lapse video of our drive from Texas to Canada. We were extremely impressed by the mileage we got out of our hybrid- we only had to fill up three times.

    Enjoy!

    New mommy
I've replaced my shard of a vehicle (96 Jetta) with a Civic Hybrid. I love it so very much. I never in a million years thought I'd own a hybrid because hybrids to me are what Maseratis are to most other humans. I'm so in love. I drive a lot for work and the other day one of my coworkers said "Do you find yourself spending more on gas than you thought you would?" It was the first time I had the opportunity to be like "Well I drive a hybrid, so I don't spend that much on gas." Loved it.

So my very first question(s) to all y'alls is how long did it take for you to get your HOV stickers? I live in CA. I've heard it takes forever, but I want to get an idea of what forever is. Are they worth it? Do you find yourself utilizing them often? Do you mind that they kind of bring down the aesthetics of your car? Maybe I'm just too superficial.

Well, the transmission blew up in my 2004 HCH again about two months ago. Cost to fix: $3,000. And that would have been for a used transmission. Meanwhile I'd spent $1,100 last September to replace the clutch and some kind of bearing.

Rather than risk more expensive repairs, I decided to trade it in for a new car.

I will never, ever, buy another HCH. Yes, you save lots of money on gas. As I'm sure many of you can attest, though, that money goes RIGHT BACK INTO MAINTENANCE. Honda makes a good motorcycle. Honda does NOT make a good car.

Anyway, I'm stuck with two cases of 0w20 oil that I will now never use. Does anyone want it?

My entire family lives on Long Island, so I tried to get an NY CleanPass sticker for when I visit, so I can use the HOV lanes on the LIE.

No. The car must be registered in NY.

I don't know why. I live in MA, so I can't register my car in NY.

It's a silly regulation. A hybrid is a hybrid, no matter what state it's registered in.

Honda to recall thousands of Civic hybrids
Details here, but here's the important bits:

Tokyo February 10, 2007: Honda Motor Co. plans to recall 45,335 Civic Hybrid sedans worldwide to repair a voltage converter defect which could cause a short circuit that would stop the engine and prevent it from restarting.

The affected vehicles were manufactured between September 2005 and September 2006.

Honda has received no reports of accidents resulting from this defect.

    Tax Credit
Has anyone filed for tax credits for their civic hybrids?

    FORM 8910

I am confused on Part II "Credit for Business/Investment Use Part of Vehicle." What if I use my car mainly for personal purposes and commuting to/from work, am I to put 0% on line 6? And if this is so, does that mean I get no tax credit at all?

    Thanks for your help.

    Uh oh...
I was in my first accident in seven years on Friday while driving my '03 Civic Hybrid. I was getting into a turn lane and somebody from a side stree was waved through the main line of traffic and didn't see me. Nobody was hurt...the hood isn't attached quite right, it pops up a little...and there is some fender damage. But what worries me most is that while I was waiting for the police to finish filling out paper work, I had the car on in just the battery mode- no engine and the power for the radio, heat, clock started flickering on and off...sigh, poor, poor Patty.

    New HCH
I just traded in my Insight for an '07 HCH. I actually bought it while it was in transit from Japan. It's here in the US and awaiting installation of fogs lights and stuff like that. I am sad to see my old hybrid go, though.

Anyway, I am having one problem with the car that I need to solve, which is connecting it to an iPod. There was a part for the '06 HCHs that allowed an iPod to integrated with the stereo system. Honda discontinued it, because it did not work with newer iPods. The new music link is now avialable, but it's over a thousand dollars!

So, I am hoping that there is some sort of aftermarket part I can use. Or maybe any Pioneer adapter would work? I can always just use a line-in, but it's not the same. Anyone else had this problem or know a solution? Thanks.

    accident :(
First of all, no one got hurt, not even a little bit.  My SO was driving my '06 Civic hybrid, and my baby was in the back seat, in her rear-facing Britax car seat.  He was stopped at a stop sign, it was night time, he didn't see the other vehicle, and he drove right into it.
I feel bad about dwelling on this, because the important thing is everyone's health and safety.  But I keep thinking about my car.  The bumper got torn off, the headlights shattered and strewn on the road, the radiator damaged, and we're hoping the engine was not injured.  Something was dripping from the car when they towed it away.  I wasn't in the car, so I don't know first hand what happened.  I just keep wondering, why is my car so messed up from a low-speed collision?  He said the bumper got torn and twisted off; it wasn't an impact-type thing so much, the airbags didn't even go off.  The baby didn't even cry.
I don't need answers, this post is just sort of my way of mourning my car's injuries.  I wonder, do I love my car too much?  If so, why?  And what does that mean about me?  Also quite rhetorical.
I guess the positive way to frame this problem is that my beloved car kept my beloved family very safe in a situation they might not have fared quite so well in, in a different vehicle.

Warning about expenses that incurr after 100,000 miles
    Hello all!!

While we have loved out CivHybrid for over 4 years (May 2002), we are now suffering the "out of warranty" pain.

At 103,000+/-, we took the car in for a "rattle under the hood" = broken engine mount. $1200.

At 105,000+/-, we took in for more noise under the hood and strange shifting (it's a manual). Terciary Catalytic Converter ($1100) and the Transmission Bearing ($1600). We've delayed the Cat Conv. fix and are doing the tranny (safety). In CA we will need to have it smogged next year, so we will do something about it before then.

Something to keep in mind for those of you with higher mileage out there.

Now a proud owner of a 2006 Civic Hybrid
A couple of weeks I got a phone call saying that the expacted delivery date had been pushed back to April and was about to give up and get a Jazz instead but just a day later had another call saying they had had a cancellation and did I mind grey instead of black?

I didn't so Carster now sits quite happily in the driveway. We're getting about 6.8l per 100km for almost entirely city rush hour travel so are very happy with that.

i hate to part with my beloved hybrid, but i'm moving to the city and it's too expensive to pay for a garage and gas these days :(.

i've never done this before, so i'm wondering if anyone has any advice on selling a used car. i'm thinking of doing it online cuz it cuts out a lot of costs and headaches, imho. has anyone used ebay/ecarfly to sell their car? how easy/hard is this to do?
